April 16, 2015 Oles Buzina, Ukrainian journalist, writer and former editor of the newspaper "Today", was killed near his house in Kiev. He was known for his criticism of the government, particularly in connection with the events in the Maidan and the conflict in the east.
In December 2015, suspected of the murder of Buzina, representatives of the nationalist organization of C14 were released from custody.
As of May 25, 2018, the court has not yet begun to consider the materials of the indictment.
On June 7, 2018 the Shevchenkovsky court re-started the preparatory hearing on the case of the murder of Buzina, canceling all previous results of the case. Scheduled for June 15, the next hearing on the case of the murder of Buzina was postponed to August 9 for a formal pretext - the jury did not issue a memo. Meanwhile, in the corridor representatives of right-wing radical groups shouted slogans: “Judge the separatist and not the soldiers!”, “Judges remember, power is not eternal!”, “Disqualify the judges!”.
Another judge's sickness caused the cancellation of the hearing of the case of murder of Ukrainian journalist and publicist Oles Buzina, scheduled for 26 September 2018. The defendants - C14 representatives Andrey Medvedko and Denis Polischuk - and their lawyers failed to appear in court. The next session is scheduled for 23 October 2018. It should be reminded that Oles Buzina was a publicist known for his criticism of the government who was shot on 16 April 2015 in his courtyard in Kiev. The defendants are charged with "premeditated murder by a group of individuals in collusion" and "illegal possession of firearms" with maximum penalty of 15 years or life in prison.
On October 23 a hearing on the murder of the well-known publicist Oles Buzina took place in the Shevchenkovsky court of Kiev. The defence of the accused Andrey Medvedko and Denis Polishchukinsists on the need to consider the case from the beginning and demands the disqualification of the judge. On December 11th the Shevchenkovsky district court of Kiev held a regular hearing on the murder of Oles Buzina. The lawyers of the defendants Andrey Medvedko and Denis Polishchuk asked for the withdrawal of the jury, but it was not satisfied. Now the defense intends to challenge the Prosecutor involved in the case. The next court hearing is scheduled for the 8th and 15th of February 2019. On June 11th, 2019 a hearing was held in the Shevchenkovsky Court of Kiev concerning the case of the murder of the journalist and publicist Oles Buzina. The court was not able to read out the withdrawals of some judges. The lawyers of Andrey Medvedko and Denis Polishchuk, accused of murdering Oles Buzina, insisted on a decision to postpone the hearing. The next court hearing is scheduled for July 11th.
On July 13th, 2019 the Ukrainian journalist and publicist Oles Buzina would have turned 50 years old. Despite the fact that more than 3 years have passed since the high-profile murder, the court is still considering the case, and, respectively, the criminals have not been punished and remain at large. On July 11th, in the Shevchenkovsky district court of Kiev, during a hearing on this case, another challenge was announced to the judge. A stalemate was made concerning the case: due to the fact that all the judges who were involved in the case had withdrawn themselves or had been challenged by one of the parties, it was no longer possible in the Shevchenkovsky court of Kiev to form a new court composition, which is required by law.
