"Uspishna Varta" informed international organisations about the human rights situation in Ukraine in 2018

The "Uspishna Varta" human rights platform sent a large-scale report entitled "Political and civil rights in Ukraine: Monitoring compliance in 2018" to international organisations, the highest state authorities in Ukraine, and also to Ukrainian human rights organizations.

In the 2018 monitoring report, experts recorded 197 cases where political and civil rights and freedoms in Ukraine had been violated, 59% of which were related to violations of the right to freedom of speech and opinion, 27% - the right to association and peaceful assembly, and 14% - the right to freedom of conscience and religion.

In addition, human rights activists noted that in 32% of recorded cases rights were violated as a result of the activities of right-wing groups, such as “C14”, “National Corpus”, and “Bratstvo”. Journalists, bloggers, and individual media companies remain the most vulnerable to violations of their rights in Ukraine (46% of all cases). They are followed by social activists and human rights defenders (18%), political parties (13%), and religious organizations and communities (12%).

Also, the lawyers of "Uspishna Varta" developed and included in the monitoring report a number of recommendations for the highest state authorities that will contribute to improving the situation with respect to political and civil rights in Ukraine.

The human rights activists of "Uspishna Varta" systematically inform the international community about the human rights situation in Ukraine. The experts of the human rights platform prepare and send out weekly reviews of violations of political and civil rights in Ukraine, as well as quarterly monitoring reports. In addition, in 2018 human rights defenders prepared and presented a large-scale report entitled "Political and civil rights and freedoms in Ukraine: monitoring of compliance 2014-2018".

Also, during speeches from the high rostrum in Brussels, Warsaw, Berlin, and Geneva, representatives of "Uspishna Varta" reported to the international community and directly to the representatives of the European Parliament, the UN, and the OSCE about the facts of human rights violations in Ukraine, which are also recorded in monitoring reports.

As was previously reported by the human rights activists of "Uspishna Varta", the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) included the recommendations of the "Uspishna Varta" human rights platform in the final report based on the results of the “Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM)”, which took place from September 10th to 21st 2018 in Warsaw.
