The court left Stanislav Ezhov in custody for another 2 months

On December 17 and 18 hearings concerning the case of "Groisman’s translator" Stanislav Ezhov took place in the Goloseevsky court of the city of Kiev. The "Uspishna Varta" human rights platform carried out trial monitoring.

During the hearing on December 17 the prosecutor submitted a motion for the extension of the measure of restraint in the form of detention imposed on Stanislav Ezhov. The defendant asked the court if he could use the time allowed to him in order to become acquainted with the motion of the prosecutor. The court granted Ezhov's request.

On December 18 the prosecutor tried to resubmit evidence that confirms Ezhov's guilt that he had already referred to in court. This concerns a fragment of correspondence in which separate passages were corrected by a proof-reader. The court expressed the need to understand the provided materials in the consultation room, and then it will be able to give an assessment of the possibility of using them as proof in the case of Ezhov.

In addition, the court made the decision to keep Stanislav Ezhov in custody for another 60 days – until February 15 2019.

As "Uspishna Varta" earlier reported on Facebook, during the previous hearing concerning the case of Ezhov the court investigated the proof of the prosecutor in the form of an audio recording of allegedly confidential negotiations between 3 unknown persons about the position of the Ukrainian officials on general topics. The lawyer of the defendant noted that the provided information that is involved in the case of Ezhov had no “confidential” stamps and in no way disappeared.

As a reminder, Stanislav Ezhov, the translator of the Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman, was detained on December 20 2017 by employees of the SBU at his workplace. He is accused of state treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the SBU, Ezhov was recruited by the Russian special services during a long foreign business trip. He has been in custody in the Lukyanovsky pre-trial detention center of the city of Kiev without an alternative for almost 10 months. He faces from 12 to 15 years of imprisonment with the possible confiscation of property. Ezhov's case is being continuously monitored by the "Uspishna Varta" human rights platform.
