Supporters of the OCU prevented believers of the UOC in the Zhytomyr region from entering their own Church

On January 13th in the village of Vorsovka in the Malinsky district of the Zhytomyr region supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), with the assistance of the representative from "Svoboda" Nikolay Polinovsky and the rural head Petro Podruchny, actually occupied the Svyato-Nikolaevsky temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The gathered "activists" did not let the priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Father Vitaly and the prior of the Svyato-Pokrovsky temple of the Malinsky district, who arrived to Vorsovka to carrying out a prayer service, enter the church. They roughly pushed them away and said "we won't allow you to carry out a church service on the territory of this temple". But despite this the prayer service was carried out outside the temple’s walls under the open sky.

"I don't know how church services can happen now, but we will do everything we can so that the service takes place if not in the temple, then near it," said Father Vitaly to parishioners.

In response to the statement of the priest, adherents of the OCU started to loudly sing the anthem of Ukraine, drowning out the believers. Some "activists" tried to snatch the microphone from the hands of parishioners and disrupt video filming. However, the law enforcement officers who were present at the scene intervened to prevent the conflict from escalating.

As a reminder, on January 11th supporters of the OCU in the village of Vorsovka of the Zhytomyr region, with the help of the Village Council and activists from "Svoboda", held a gathering in support of switching to the newly formed structure. The Svyato-Nikolaevsky temple was sealed off, and the prior of the temple was put in hospital with a hypertensive crisis. Near the temple the skirmish continued. According to the information of journalists, the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church did not let the crowd enter the temple. The on-duty police officers that were at the scene prevented clashes. The head of the Village Council insisted on sealing off the church so that allegedly "Moscow priests do not take away anything valuable". According to journalists, one of priests was invited to a conversation with the SBU.
