Prosecutor makes public the "classified" information for which Stanislav Yezhov Is tried

Today, on October 19, Goloseevsky Court of Kiev conducted a hearing of the case of "Groysman's interpreter" Stanislav Yezhov. The session was monitored by Uspishna Varta human rights platform.

The court continued the prosecution's evidence under which Mr. Yezhov is charged with treason.

The prosecution claims that Yezhov sent classified information to and other persons.

According to Uspishna Varta coordinator who attended the hearing, the prosecutor read off, in the presence of the media, readouts of conversation between Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, allegedly containing information valuable for Ukraine that was transmitted by Yezhov in an email exchange. In addition, the prosecutor read off printouts of articles by Ukrainian analysts and political scientists that were allegedly transmitted by Yezhov.

The prosecutor did not present any evidence that the information was classified.

"I am charged with transmission of secret materials to the Russian intelligence. But today the prosecutor read off those "classified" documents in an open session in the presence of TV cameras; now every intelligence in the world has access to them. When do you expect the arrest of the prosecutor?", Stanislav Yezhov commented on the prosecution's actions.

The defense lawyer stated that the protocol didn't establish the transmission of information to a foreign party, while no damage is claimed by the indictment. In addition, the value of the information was never established along with the damage caused by its disclosure.

Mr. Stanislav Yezhov, the interpreter of Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman, was arrested at his workplace by SBU operatives on 20 December 2017. He is charged with treason under Article 111 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to SBU, Mr. Yezhov was recruited during an overseas posting. For over 10 months, he remains in custody in Lukyanovka jail of Kiev without a bail. If convicted, he may receive between 12 and 15 years in prison with possible confiscation of property.
