Kirill Vyshinsky’s measure of restraint in the form of detention was extended until May 24

On March 26th a hearing took place in the Podolsky district court of Kiev concerning the case of the head of the RIA "Novosti Ukraine" website Kirill Vyshinsky. The journalist’s measure of restraint in the form of detention was extended until May 24th. The ruling of the court notes that the collegium of judges refused to grant the lawyers’ motion for returning the indictment to the prosecutors.

The defence of the journalist filed a motion for the dismissal of the collegium of judges, motivating this decision by referring to the bias of the judges.

Also, consideration of the essence of criminal proceedings vis-à-vis the charges against the head of RIA “Novosti Ukraine" Kirill Vyshinsky was appointed for April 4th by the Podolsky district court.

As a reminder, on March 20th the cassation criminal court of the Supreme Court of Ukraine considered the complaint of lawyers about the illegal arrest of the journalist and head of the RIA "Novosti Ukraine" website Kirill Vyshinsky. The collegium of judges decided to send the case to the joint cassation chamber.

The editor-in-chief of RIA “Novosti Ukraine” Kirill Vyshinsky was detained on May 15th by the SBU during a search in his apartment. The journalist is accused of state treason under article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which does not stipulate a measure of restraint other than detention.
