The Ukrainian Orthodox Church reported that a priest was beaten up by the police in the Ternopol region

The Information-Educational Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) reported that on Sunday, February 3rd, near the Svyato-Preobrazhensky temple in the village Gnezdichne in the Zbarazh district (Ternopol region) there was a clash between supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) and representatives of the religious community of the UOC. As a result of the clashes, priest Stefan Balan was injured after being beaten up by the aggressive supporters of the OCU and police officers.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church posted a video of the clashes at the temple on its YouTube channel:

The representatives of the UOC stressed that the police was on the side of the supporters of the OCU.

As a reminder, on January 13th "activists" of the OCU held a meeting in the village of Gnezdichne, during which those present voted in favour of a transition to the new OCU, however the religious community decided to remain in the bosom of the UOC. The villagers agreed to serve on rotation: in the morning - the community of the UOC with the Abbot and Secretary of the Ternopol diocese Archpriest Stefan Balan, and afterwards it is the turn of supporters of the OCU.
